Electro-Magnetic Acoustic Thickness Gauge (EMAT)
EMAT TECHNOLOGY Electro-Magnetic Acoustic Thickness Traditional furnace tubes or stream boiler tubes inspection are typically expensive, time consuming and additionally require material deleterious surface preparation to enable the acquisition of Ultrasonic, Thickness Measurement. The develop of specialized electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMAT) linked to standard Ultrasonic Thickness Measurements through surface scale or oxide up to 1.5 mm. thick. By this technique, it is not necessary to remove oxide scale in order to make the thickness measurements, the scale thickness is not added into the wall thickness measurement, and measurements can be made very quickly and without need for liquid couplant.
The advantage of Electro-Magnetic Acoustic Thickness Gauge (EMAT)
• Significant initial time and cost savings from reduced surface preparation requirements.
• Able to inspect rough, dirty, scale, oxidized or uneven surface
• Able to measure at elevated conditions
• No couplant required
• High accuracy and inspection speed
• Accurate method of determining erosion or corrosion rates.
• B-scan mode displays a profile of the object being inspected on the instrument’s screen.
