Phased Array Ultrasonic Test (PAUT)
Phased Array Ultrasonic Test is an advanced method of Ultrasonic testing. It applied same technique as Ultrasonic Test by transmitting energy into material via probe which consists of many small ultrasonic transducers, each of which can be pulsed independently and the data from multiple beams are put together to make a visual image showing a slice through the object. Phase Array method is used to detect discontinuities such as cracks or flaws and thereby determine component quality. It can also be used for detecting wall thickness reductions due to corrosion, erosion and abrasion.
Benefit :
– Can greatly simplify the inspection of components with complex geometry
– Sensitive to planar discontinuity at various orientation
– Very accurate to measure depth and through-wall extent
– Safety , Non hazardous
– Fast sector scanning enables a reduction in inspection time overall
– Corrosion Mapping produces a permanent record of corrosion measurements. It useful comparisons corrosion rate under in-service condition and also a corrosion monitoring program can be optimized.
– C-Scan plan view display allows easy interpretation and evaluation of present
corrosion or erosion damage
